Do you want to get a blue tick on your Instagram and Facebook profiles? If yes, then you might be interested in Meta’s new subscription service that lets you pay for verification.
Meta, formerly known as Facebook, announced on Sunday that it is testing a new feature called Meta Verified. This feature allows users to pay $11.99 per month on web or $14.99 per month on iPhone to get a blue verification badge on Instagram and Facebook.
According to Meta, the verification badge will help users “stand out from the crowd” and “show their authenticity”. Users who opt for this service will also get access to exclusive content, tips, and support from Meta.
However, not everyone can get verified by paying. Users will still need to meet some criteria such as having a government-issued ID card, having a public profile with at least 10k followers, and following Meta’s community guidelines.
Meta said that this feature is currently available only for select users in the US and UK as part of a limited test. The company plans to expand it to more countries and platforms in the future.
Meta’s move to introduce paid verification has sparked mixed reactions from users and experts. Some see it as a way to empower creators and influencers who want to grow their audience and credibility. Others see it as a way for Meta to make more money from users who are desperate for validation and recognition.
